汤圆vs元宵

元宵和汤圆是正月十五必吃的食品,每年元宵节,南北方的小伙伴就要开启一场辩论。那么,汤圆和元宵究竟有何区别?

为了方便理解,元宵(yuanxiao)和汤圆(tangyuan)皆可意译为sweet glutinous rice balls。

二者的外表虽然类似,但北方“滚”元宵,南方“包”汤圆,这是两种做法和口感都不同的食品。

北方的元宵是在糯米粉中“滚”出来的。

Yuanxiao is popular in northern China and is more complicated to make than tangyuan. The filling needs to be cut into little cubes, dipped into water, and put in a shallow basket with sticky rice powder. Then comes the physical work of rolling the cubes until they become balls.

北方元宵制作较为复杂。元宵是“滚”出来的,把馅料切成小方块放入糯米粉的簸箕里摇,边摇边洒水,直至成型。

南方的汤圆,则是把馅儿放在糯米片上“包”成的。

The process of making tangyuan is pretty much like making jiaozi: Wrap pieces of sticky rice around the filling and make it into a ball with your hands.

做汤圆的过程更像是包饺子:用糯米包馅,再用手将其搓成球形。

各地的汤圆还有甜咸之分,甜汤圆有芝麻馅、豆沙馅、花生馅,咸汤圆有鲜肉汤圆、菜肉汤圆......

元宵不能多吃

不管你吃的是汤圆还是元宵,热量都不小。

重庆医科大学附属第二医院临床营养科营养师陈宇诗介绍,以常见的芝麻元宵为例,大约8个元宵相当于1碗白米饭的热量。

陈宇诗建议,食用元宵或汤圆成年人每餐不超过6个,消化功能较弱的老年人和儿童,每餐不超过3~4个。糖尿病患者每餐最好不超过3个,同时,这一餐还要减去半碗米饭,并与蔬菜、杂粮等富含膳食纤维的食物搭配食用,这样血糖会升得慢一些。

Whether you're having tangyuan or yuanxiao, both are calorie-dense. For example, eight sesame yuanxiao equals the calories of one bowl of rice. Adults should limit intake to six per meal, while elderly, children, and diabetes patients should have no more than three to four per meal.

值得注意的是,最近市面上流行的“无糖汤圆”,其中虽然不含蔗糖,但淀粉、油脂却没有明显减少,吃多了一样容易引起血糖、血脂的升高。所以千万不能因为它“无糖”就放肆大吃。

"Sugar-free tangyuan" may lack sucrose but still contain starch and fat, leading to high blood sugar and lipids if overconsumed. So don't overeat just because they're "sugar-free".
